ARLIS-SC Board Meeting 2009

Date: Friday, March 20, 2009

Location: Getty Research Institute

In Attendance: Sarah Sherman, Robert Gore, Alyssa Resnick, Julie Yamashita, and Cathy Billings

Review of Agenda/Additions/Approval

None.

Conference Chapter Meeting

This meeting should aim to be more social rather than business-focused.

“Travel Awards Celebration and Social Gathering” 8pm Saturday, Apr. 18. Location tbd.

ARLIS-SC Travel Awards Results

Julie, a member of the Awards Committee, reported on how the decision-making process went. Leanne Hindmarch won the Judith Hoffberg Travel Award and Allison Schulte won the Student Travel Award.

Each winner will be given her award check ($400 each) at this meeting in Indianapolis.

Conference Silent Auction Contribution

The Chapter will contribute a Silent Auction Basket again this year.

Sarah will send out an email re: donations and regional dropoffs. If you are attending the conference, take your donation to an officer.

A few people covering the Southern California area that are going to the conference will be approached and asked if they would be willing collect area contributions to take to Indy.

Conference Mentor Workshop

Sarah and Cathy will be going to a mentoring workshop at the conference. They will share what they learn with the rest of the board so that we can develop ideas for building our chapter mentoring program as well as a future chapter meeting on this topic.

2013 National Conference Proposal

Proposal has been sent, but a response is not likely until after the Indianapolis meeting.

Membership Drive

Robert would like to continue this focus of his chairmanship.

Robert suggests that we build up student membership through the newsletter and mentoring.

Robert would like to send letters to lapsed members will be sent letters that list activities and the benefits of membership.

Julie will send files of the 2009 membership list and the long old member list (also post on Google Docs) so that the board can recommend names for receiving the lapsed member letter.

Newsletter

Publication date: October or November to promote membership renewal.

Allison Schulte’s report on the ARLIS-NA conference will be included.

Announcement of the winter meeting.

Future Chapter Meetings

Summer Meeting

Possible joint VRA-SC meeting with ARLIS-SC at Otis. Social aspect with site visit, tour, etc., but also a business meeting.

Fall Meeting

Mentoring workshop based on what Sarah and Cathy learned at their workshop at the national conference.

Has interest for both students and professionals.

ARLIS-SC Blog

The “official” address for the blog is now http://arlis-sc.org, not http://arlis-sc.org/blog.

Robert, as Past Chair, will now post to the blog any ARLIS-SC news that is sent via listservs. Board members will post general news to the blog themselves.

Sarah will ask Heather for new logins for the board members.

Chapter Timeline

Sarah will create a Google Doc for the Chapter’s timeline. It is based on the “Schedule of reports and activities” from the ARLIS-NA Chapter Success Book. It will be called “ARLIS-SC reports & activities schedule”

Treasurer’s Report

Cathy reported that we brought in $510 in dues for 2009 memberships and $243 in donations. Our current bank balance is $4,647.25 (less $200 donation to the conference Welcome Party, which has not cleared yet).

Robert suggested that we begin working on fundraising once our membership drive is over.

Secretary’s Report

There are currently 47 members, 18 of which are new and 12 are students.

Post-Conference Tasks

Send out an email using the newsletter’s layout that includes Indy conference events, maybe part of Allison’s report.

Same/separate email re: summer meeting and other future events.
